I can use my laptop camera normally opening the camera app, however, in Settings it says the camera is unavailable for the "Sign-In" camera option. Why?

Hi Rush,

Are you referring to Windows Hello Recognition? If your laptop only has a standard webcam, it won’t support Windows Hello Face. You can still use other Windows Hello options like:

  • Fingerprint recognition (if your device has a fingerprint reader)
  • PIN or password

To verify that your device supports IR Camera for Facial Recognition.

  1. Open Device Manager Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager
  2. Expand “Cameras” or “Imaging Devices”
  3. Look for IR-related entries, such as:
    • Integrated IR Camera
    • Windows Hello Camera
    • Microsoft IR Camera Front

If you only see one camera “Integrated Camera”, it’s a standard webcam, not IR-capable or can't be use for log in method.
