Hi Team,

I have a personal Microsoft 365 Family Membership, and have files stored in my one drive and for the past month i have been repeatedly getting the notification that my one drive is full but i am unable to find out exactly how much space each item is consuming on my drive space.

I know that with each account you get 6 subscriptions and each subscription you get 1 TB of space. Now while i have made very good use of this space, i am unable to find out exactly how much space each item is consuming, thereby unable to delete repeated files or old versions, or even stuff that i have already transferred out of the laptop and do not need a copy on my laptop anymore.

As shown in the image below all i am able to see is that One Drive has occupied 98% of the space, but what in my One Drive is occupying exactly how much space is something i am unable to view. ( An exact break down of items in the One drive and how much each item is occupying.)

If anyone could help me resolve this issue I'd be most grateful. I'd like to continue using this feature for the foreseeable future and this is getting really bothersome and irking that i am unable to figure how to view the break down after this long.

Thanks.

    Dear @Prithvi Kalyan,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how annoying and tiresome it is to receive constant "OneDrive full" notifications without a clear way to see where all your space is going. You are definitely right that the standard interface lacks the detail needed for efficient file management! The good news is that the solution involves using a specialized page within the web interface to get the exact hierarchical consumption report you need.

    • Open your web browser and go to OneDrive.com.
    • Sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Click the Gear icon (Settings) in the top right corner.

    • In the menu that appears, click Options (or OneDrive Settings).
    • On the left navigation pane, look for More Settings or Manage Storage.
      User's image
    • Select Storage Metrics.

The Storage Metrics page will load a view that is organized hierarchically:

    • It shows a list of your largest folders and files, sorted by size.
    • The view makes it easy to click into the largest folders and see the sub-folders and files contributing most significantly to the total usage.

As a final measure after using the Storage Metrics to delete large files, remember that deleted files remain in your OneDrive Recycle Bin and continue to count against your storage limit until they are permanently cleared.

    1. On OneDrive.com, click the Recycle bin link on the left side menu.
    2. Click Empty recycle bin to finalize the deletion and reclaim the space immediately.

I agree that this detailed view should be easier to find. If you would like to suggest that Microsoft make the "Storage Metrics" link more prominent (e.g., placing it directly on the main settings screen), I encourage you to share your input through our official feedback channel: OneDrive · Community
