Hi ceilah rek,
Thank you for raising your concern on the Microsoft Q&A Forum! I know how frustrating it is to be locked out, especially when you just mistyped your PIN.
The message you’re seeing is Windows 11’s security mechanism kicking in to protect your device after several incorrect PIN entries. Sometimes this lockout doesn’t automatically clear after 2 hours, especially if the device goes to sleep or restarts during the wait. Here is how we can fix this now and also set up safer back-ups so it doesn’t block you in the future:
1 - Restart in Safe Mode:
- Hold Shift and click Restart from the lock screen.
- Go to Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart.
- Choose Safe Mode and sign in with your password.
2 - Reset PIN:
- From the sign-in screen, click I forgot my PIN and follow the steps (requires internet and Microsoft account).
3 - Advanced (use only if you’re comfortable):
After signing in with an admin account, delete the contents of the NGC folder to fully reset Windows Hello data, then set up the PIN again: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC
Note: You’ll need admin rights, and you may need to take folder ownership first. Only do this if normal PIN reset options aren’t available.
Consider setting up an additional sign‑in method like Windows Hello Face or Fingerprint (if your device supports it) to prevent this in the future.
I look forward to receiving your update. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment". Thanks for your effort.
