Check Disk Management

- Find your drive (match its size, may say "Removable").

- Unallocated: Right-click > New Simple Volume > format with NTFS or exFAT (data will be erased; use Recuva to recover if needed).
Test Connections
- Use a different USB port (back of PC preferred).
- Avoid hubs; test on another computer.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Disk Drives and USB Serial Bus Controllers; look for yellow exclamation marks.
