I'm having a persistent issue with my external monitor flickering or going completely black.
Problem:
My monitor flickers constantly or turns black.
It only displays properly at 60Hz, but even then, flickering still happens intermittently.
When I try to set it to higher refresh rates (like 144Hz), the flickering gets worse or it goes black entirely.
What I’ve tried:
Used two different HDMI cables: a 2.4 HDMI and a 5 HDMI.
Tested both cables on other monitors and they worked fine.
Tried different monitors with my laptop — same flickering issue.
Connected this MSI monitor to another person’s PC, and it worked perfectly with no issues.
Adjusted refresh rate settings in Windows and NVIDIA Control Panel.
Updated display drivers and GPU drivers.
My Setup:
Laptop: ASUS Gaming Laptop
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
Monitor: MSI G241 (144Hz supported)
Cables: HDMI 2.4 and HDMI 5, both tested and working on other setups.
It seems like the issue is specific to my laptop, since the cables and monitors all work elsewhere.
Questions:
Could this be a compatibility issue with my laptop’s HDMI port or GPU?
Is there a known fix for this kind of flickering issue when using external monitors?
Would using a DisplayPort or USB-C to DisplayPort adapter potentially fix the problem?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!
