How to fix XBOX Remote play displaying a black screen every time it launches after initial setup
When I try to remote play my Xbox from another location, the app/browser connects and then shows a black screen, this will continue until I manually disconnect, The Xbox has its remote play features enabled, and the feature works the very first time I set it up, then never again, restarts and system changes on the Xbox or computer don't seem to have any effect on this behavior. The troubleshooting steps on the Xbox website do not seem to affect anything either.

2025-09-02T04:21:06.46+00:00 I am having the same issues. If I’m on the same network as the Xbox, it works fine.
I have tried all sorts of work arounds:
-share the link to my home page on iPhone and iPad to the remote play website, that didn’t work
-try a vpn, that didn’t work.
-port forwarded my Xbox, that didn’t work.
INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING! There has been no help from Microsoft at all. The remote play app worked fine before!
Please help! :,)

2025-09-08T09:40:02.12+00:00 I’m having the exact same issue, I have tried disconnecting the HDMI cables as other posts have stated it is a resolution problem, however this never solved it for me. I have looked online and can’t find any answers, as someone who sees remote play as a key selling point for remote gaming, I will want assurances the portable handheld consoles (Rog Ally X) don’t have the same connection issues. As when remote play was working directly from the app I never had a problem, and then they move the service to web based, it all goes to S#%! and then “conveniently” they almost immediately start announcing portable handheld devices with official Xbox affiliation, Coincidence? I think not.

2025-09-08T09:52:11.8766667+00:00 Hi Dom, I resolved the issue.
it was an issue with IP address. I had to port forward all the necessary Xbox ports and purchase a static IP from my provider.
fairly straightforward but annoying! Hope this helps

2025-09-08T10:05:49.64+00:00 Thanks for the reply! Hopefully this works 🙏🏻 I currently on holiday so I will try this when I return home. Just out of curiosity, did the app work for you before it moved to web based? As I never had issues with that before and haven’t changed internet provider since the transition.

2025-09-08T10:19:33.01+00:00 I’m not really sure, I never used it properly before it moved. It worked on my internal network before though.
the remote play works now when I’m out and about, only on other WIFI networks though not my cell service, might be due to 4G/5G Nat type?

2025-10-20T09:11:02.61+00:00 Alright so I had the same issue and just fixed it.
Remote features wouldn’t work for my Xbox as I mirror to my windows laptop. After getting error messages, I was able to get it to simple just black screen. Still an issue but we’re getting somewhere.
So I turned off and on “Enable remote features” in case it was glitched.
Then I logged into the Xbox app and got an error that the Xbox account I was using wasn’t the same email as the account in the Microsoft AppStore.
i changed it to the associated account and then restarted and it seems to be working smoothly now!

2026-04-07T03:22:42.75+00:00 Wow, my set up had similar issues but am able to use Xbox remote play on cellular now. I had to change my home router settings to turn on port forwarding port forward several external lan ports to my Xbox ip address, including ports 3074, 5000-4900, 500, 3544. Port 3074 is the default Xbox port - this will change if you changed the default port on the settings. This would be necessary if you had more than one Xbox on your network After I set port forwarding it still didn’t work. I toggled the enable remote settings on the Xbox settings and still no good. I unplugged my console to reset it. Still no good. Since I have ATT fiber I went into the advanced firewall settings in the ATT smart home app and turned off the advanced settings related to “drop incoming imcp echo requests” and suddenly everything started working. I can now play any console game on my iPhone using only cellular data. There are many variables with all the diferent systems. I wanted to chime in that full function Xbox remote play is possible using cellular data if you are persistent. I went ahead and went full nerd with a ShanWan controller on Amazon. It is a controller that fits around your phone so you have the controller and phone as one unit. It’s been kinda fun on long car trips.

2026-11-04T06:26:28.3366667+00:00 XBOX Remote play displaying a black screen every time it launches after initial setup .I used to work fine before but when i start switching WIFI and Mobile data while playing from XBOX Remote play later it works only with my mobile data but doesnot work in my home WIFI network from chrome browser.I Even formate my mobile same thing continued.Lastly i made my Samsung Browser on my Android phone as defult browser then it starts to work normally like before. Then i disable remote play app with mobile data and enable only with WIFI network.
It works fine for now but if i again make chrome browser as defult browse it only works with moblie data not with my WIFI network.
I really don't understand how does this happend? and i did't find any help regarding on this matter on XBOX offical website about troubleshoot remote play.
