Microsoft 365 Installation stuck at white screen, then disappears

Hi, I’m having an issue with installing Microsoft 365 recently.

When I run the setup, it opens the white installer window but stays there without progressing to the installation status screen.

After a while, the window disappears completely.

If I try to install again, I get an error saying Microsoft 365 is already installed — but there’s nothing showing under Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Only after a few hours, the installation seems to complete by itself and Microsoft 365 finally shows up as installed.

Has anyone else faced this? Why is the installation stuck for hours before completing, and how can I fix this so it installs normally?

Hi @Mohd Marezuan Ahmad Marzuki

Good day! Welcome to Q&A forum!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how confusing it can be when the Microsoft 365 installation appears stuck and then completes hours later. This behavior usually happens because the Click-to-Run installer continues working silently in the background, but certain factors can delay the process.

Here are some steps to help resolve the issue and ensure a smooth installation in case you experience the same issue while installing Microsoft 365:

  1. If the installer disappears, please avoid from retrying the installation. Instead, restart your device and navigate to Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Windows 11) or Control Panel > Programs and Features (Windows 10) > Look for "Microsoft 365" or "Microsoft Office." to check. If it's not there, kindly wait for 15 to 30 minutes and check again.
  2. Remove remnants of previous installations  Use Microsoft’s official Uninstall Microsoft 365 from a PC - Microsoft Support to completely remove any leftover Office components before reinstalling.
  3. Disable interfering software  Temporarily turn off VPN, third-party antivirus, and encryption tools, then restart your PC and try the installation again.

  1. Run the installer as Administrator and check your network  Ensure you have a stable internet connection and right-click the installer to select Run as administrator.
  2. Use the Offline Installer  If the online installer continues to stall, download the full offline installer from your Microsoft account page.

For reference: Use the Office offline installer - Microsoft Support

  1. Monitor background installation  If the installer window disappears, open Task Manager → Processes and look for OfficeClickToRun.exe. If it’s running, the installation is still in progress.

These steps typically resolve the issue. If the problem persists, please let me know so I can provide you with further supporting steps.
