Windows 11 pro 24h2 update has installed Intel - Extension - 2.1.10103.24 multiple times over the pass two weeks, each time it stated that it was successfully installed. Why is repeating request to install multiple time? This as been occurring since August 24, Windows update package

Successfully installed on ‎8/‎13/‎2025

Driver Update:

Intel - Extension - 2.1.10103.24

Any suggested on how to troubleshoot this?

I think the Intel Extension update is faulty; it doesn't install correctly so it keeps appearing in Windows Update.
I've had this for several months on a Dell Precision laptop and my 'fix' has been to pause updates for a week at a time. When the pause runs out, I apply any other updates (the Intel update still fails) then pause it for another week to get rid of the system tray icon.
I have no faith that Intel or Microsoft will do anything to fix this.

The repeated "Intel - Extension" installation may be caused by Windows Update not recognizing the driver correctly or a bug. If you are not encountering issues with your computer, you can hide this update using the Show or Hide tool so Windows will not try to reinstall it again.

Download and install the tool here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab then run the troubleshooter. Choose to hide the driver update so Windows will not install it again.

Click next > Hide updates > Choose the update you want to hide then hit next .

Comment: I'm having exactly the same problem -- multiple installs of this Intel utility -- on a relatively new (6 months?) Lenovo Thinkpad P1. Wondering if this is strictly a Lenovo problem or if it's common on Windows 11 machines? If widespread, it's really an Intel or Windows problem, and should be fixed, not just hidden.

@Estrella721 Thanks for the link. This update isn't listed in the tool. I've paused updates for a week. Hopefully by then Microsoft/Dell/Intel will have resolved this.

The troubleshooter, which is soon to be retired, does not show the "Intel - Extension - 2.1.10105.19" update that I've applied (and had to reboot for) at least 4 times.

I do not mean to hijack this thread, but how is it possible to use the show / hide tool when it finds no updates to hide as you have to run Windows Update to get the update to show up then it just automatically installs anyway. So you have to reboot to just get the tool to work, but it will not work as the update does not show up in Windows update until you go out and check again online. So your above post is false and when in the heck is MS going to fix this? This is a huge BUG and well a pain to deal with. I am running Widows 11 25H2 and it just keeps showing up everytime I run Windows Update. Any ideas?

This was fixed for me (Latitude 5350) when I installed this before Windows Update found the missing update and started to install it for the 100th time.

@John Kempe I downloaded the one for the Precision 3591 and it seems to be just an updated version of the 2.2.10205.3620 driver. The driver stays the same in Device Manager and says it is 5/15/2025. It seems to be the same version, but the driver package seems to be different, but who knows. What did yours do? Did it actually show up with the proper version on yours? Thank you.

I'm having the same issue on a client computer. I restarted Windows update service and ran sfc/dism... waiting to see if that works but from the looks of it, it may just be a bug as this is on an HP and all other threads have been Dell/Lenovo

What worked for me was to do an in-place upgrade to the same version of Windows. That cleared it out.

After I ran the Lenovo drivers software update software to get all Lenovo recommended driver updates and then the next monthly windows 11 security and other updates. I am no longer experiencing the problem. Those two actions seem to have corrected the issue..

@Mark Sklenarik That is awesome for you, but did nothing for me. I ran the latest driver from Dell and as stated above the driver version does not change at all. It still states it is 2.2.10205.3620. So no bueno for me.

My Lenovo came with the Lenovo software " Lenovo Commercial Vantage", that software allows me to check for driver updates directly from Lenovo.

The Intel - Extension - 2.1.10103.24 update gets downloaded and installed automatically. A reboot prompt appears right after installation. For now, I’ve paused Windows Updates for a week.

The Pausing Updates, and then turning them back on seems to have worked for me also. We'll see if it stays that way.

I have the same issue with the update Intel - Extension - 2.1.10103.24

I've tried multiple big fixes, none of them worked. Ive seen that in other threads like these people recommend wushowhide.diagcab as a "fix" to hide the update. The issue with that is that the tool doesnt see the update. Also this isnt really a fix ...

I choose to pause updates for a week and then resume updates to check for updates again. For some reason now the Intel - Extension - 2.1.10103.24 shows Completed now. Hope it stays that way.

This problem is still very much UN-fixed. I'm using a new (like 6 months old) Lenovo Thinkpad with generous memory and processing power and a fully updated operating system, yet the same Intel Extension above appears every time I use the built-in Windows "Check for updates." Note that the problem did seem to be resolved briefly after updating a few drivers with the Lenovo app a couple of weeks ago. But after a few days' absence, the Intel extension started appearing again on every Windows update check. We have, perhaps, finally encountered the UPDATE THAT WOULDN'T DIE. Thanks Intel (or Microsoft or whoever is responsible)!

@Giannis Papatheodorou How did that work? I tried that and it did nothing for me. The problem is that Windows Update never clears the update, because it does not see the latest installed version, which I have the OEM driver package from Dell, which is just an updated version from 3620 (5/15/2025 to version 3621 (7/31/2025) and it cannot update the driver or just will not. I will be calling Dell Support soon as time allows as I am so slammed right now, but I will call Dell and report back to everyone.

@dcgtechnologies Before doing the pause the resume for updates i did these steps :

net stop wuauserv net stop bits ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

After those i did a reboot. Because it still wasn't fixed i did those :

net stop wuauserv net stop cryptsvc net stop bits ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old net start wuauserv net start cryptsvc net start bits

Rebbot again, and yeah still nothing worked so i did these :

sfc /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth shutdown /r /t 0 #forced reboot without update

And after the reboot, the update was STILL there. So I pressed pause updates. and then resumed again and for some reason the update was "Completed". Hope this helps :')
