Issues Connecting in Microsoft Teams Due to Account Conflicts

Recurring issues have been experienced when connecting with others on Microsoft Teams, potentially due to a conflict between a legacy personal Microsoft/Teams account and a former work account.

For instance, meetings are scheduled, and upon joining at the scheduled time, a contact reports being in the meeting while the correct meeting room is believed to be joined. This issue disrupts important meetings and has occurred both when initiating meetings and when others do.

Could this problem stem from Teams defaulting to the incorrect account or a calendar/identity conflict? What steps can be taken to ensure joining the same meeting instance as contacts?

Account details:

  • Personal: ******@gmail.com [name: William Polits]
  • Old job: ******@agas.com [name: Bill Polits]

Issues persist on both Chromebook and Mac environments. Assistance from the old company has not yielded any solutions.

Thank you for the additional information. Super helpful.

Yes, I fear the issue you had previously was due to not picking the correct account. Teams allows you to tie it with multiple accounts, and you are allowed to switch to different accounts to attend meetings. So, if you use the wrong account other than the account used to create the meeting, you could end up seeing some of the behaviors you described.

The reason I wanted to see this dropdown is to see if you have multiple accounts. Looks like your IT from old job has got that taken care of. That dropdown looks nice and clean. You are now down to your personal Microsoft account only.

If you were to attend any business user hosted meeting, and cannot join breakout room, this is normal and by default. Breakout room doesn't work for participants on personal Microsoft account, which is explained here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/breakout-rooms-troubleshooting-guide-in-microsoft-teams-02eefaa2-f5ad-4075-9de1-79747c1cb463

You should be able to attend job interview meeting without any issue. To give you a plan B option just in case ,you can always paste the meeting link on a web browser via incognito mode. When prompted to use the app, don't. When prompted to sign in, also don't. Then you would be given the chance to join without signing in and you just need to input your desired display name, then you would be in the meeting no problem.

    Hello,

I am sorry your post is a bit unclear, so I hope you don't mind me asking for more infom.

    • I assume your old job account is no longer active?
    • I cannot quite tell what the discruption behavior is. Are you saying you and your contacts are not in the same meeting space when you joined - whether it was hosted by you or by them?
    • Can you please click on your user icon on the upper right, in the drop down, do you mind sharing a screenshot. Feel free to edit it to mask away part of your email address to protect your privacy, I just need ot see the email domain part.

    Thanks!
