Additional team and channel-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Dear @JimB,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I wanted to share a quick overview of what happens when Microsoft Teams Enterprise is uninstalled and reinstalled, especially regarding user chats, channels, and settings:
- Chats and Channels: All conversations and channel history are stored in the cloud via Microsoft 365. Reinstalling Teams does not delete this data. Once the user signs back in, their chat and channel history will be restored.
- Local Cache: Uninstalling removes locally cached data such as pinned chats, custom settings, and offline messages. These will be rebuilt after re-login, but users may notice temporary delays or missing previews.
- Settings and Preferences: Personalized settings (e.g., theme, notifications) may reset. Users should reconfigure these after reinstalling.
- Reinstallation Issues: If the Teams Machine-Wide Installer is still present, Teams may auto-reinstall or cause setup loops. It’s best to remove both the app and the installer for a clean reinstall.
- Authentication: Some users may encounter sign-in issues post-reinstall, especially if Office profiles are misaligned. Clearing cache and ensuring proper credentials usually resolves this.
