Office Android apps won't open after Samsung OneUI 7 update

I recently installed the Samsung OneUI 7 update on my S23 Ultra. Everything else seems to be working fine, but if I attempt to open Word or Excel, they simply refuse to open. The animation of the button opening up starts and then it collapses back down again.

I tried clearing the cache on Word and it had no effect. Then I tried to restarting my phone. It had no effect. Next I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. No effect.

Outlook and Family Safety still work. But Word, Excel, and OneNote all don't.

I fixed it. When I opened the Office Mobile app, it had a storage/access request prompt. After I dealt with that, I opened Word and Excel from that app.

Based on the app details, it appears that this Office Mobile app came from the Samsung Cloud store and might be a pre-installed app. I'm not sure if it's actually good for anything or if it's just an advertisement for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Either way, it seems to be the source of the issues I was experiencing.

Granted that Office Mobile is now Microsoft 365 Copilot, yet the two were independently listed among my apps. Notwithstanding that 365 had had the permissions granted to it, I still found Office Mobile needed to have the permissions granted separately in order to get the desired results (i.e. the various office apps to open properly). If it is any help, the Office Mobile icon was not among any on my home pages; I found it among the app pages accessed by swiping up from the home pages.

I've searched for the Office Mobile app in the app pages by name and visually looking at all icons. I’ve looked at apps in settings too, just in case it might only be there.

I've done this more than once in case I missed it. Unfortunately, I can't find it.

I tried this after reading your post, and it didn’t fix the problem for me either. I cleared the phone cache and tried again, but got the same results.

Happy dance! I seem to have found the (or at least one more) culprit!

OneNote was installed on my phone, although I don’t use it. When I looked at it's permissions and started adjusting them, I got a message saying the app was designed for an older version of Android. When I went to the Google play store, it said "The app installed on your device didn't come from Google Play. You can update from the original source or from Google Play."

I just uninstalled it. Now WORD & EXCEL open. Each said to close and reopen to use my permissions, and then it seemed normal.

M365 copilot opens too, but I have not used it. I'm not aware of a reason to use it. Maybe I'll consider later.

I hope removing or updating OneNote fixes Office apps for everyone else. If not, perhaps there's another rogue app causing the problem for you.
