Office Android apps won't open after Samsung OneUI 7 update

I recently installed the Samsung OneUI 7 update on my S23 Ultra. Everything else seems to be working fine, but if I attempt to open Word or Excel, they simply refuse to open. The animation of the button opening up starts and then it collapses back down again.

I tried clearing the cache on Word and it had no effect. Then I tried to restarting my phone. It had no effect. Next I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. No effect.

Outlook and Family Safety still work. But Word, Excel, and OneNote all don't.

I fixed it. When I opened the Office Mobile app, it had a storage/access request prompt. After I dealt with that, I opened Word and Excel from that app.

Based on the app details, it appears that this Office Mobile app came from the Samsung Cloud store and might be a pre-installed app. I'm not sure if it's actually good for anything or if it's just an advertisement for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Either way, it seems to be the source of the issues I was experiencing.

This is it. I stumbled upon this when looking at permissions. Scrolling though apps that had file access permissions, I saw Microsoft office in the list, despite it having been deleted. But this had a little blue lock icon on it. So I went into the secure folder, and apps list in settings, and there it was hiding. For some reason I can still see other old office apps in there and it won't let me uninstall them, but as long as the main office app is gone then it's sorted. Oh and fk Microsoft for not helping with this.

    1. In settings search 'office mobile'
    2. Open office mobile app
    3. 'Force stop'
    4. Try to open and will ask for permissions
    5. Allow all
    6. Try opening word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.

    This worked for me!

I have gone through all my apps and could not locate a Microsoft mobile app to verify all permissions are set. I even turned on most permissions (skipping notifications on some apps) with no affect. I have a Samsung 23 that just completed the latest update when this all started. Microsoft Word and M365 Copilot will not open. I've deleted and re-installed both apps with no difference.
