Hello,

Since the last update, it is impossible to edit smart art when on a laptop (the text in the toolbox is too big, and when you click on a line, it clicks on another etc.), the problem is fixed when I use a monitor. All MacBook owners in my office have the same problem. We tried to zoom out, but it is impossible to make it work.

Dear EA,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and just to reassure you, you're definitely not alone. Many PowerPoint users on MacBook have reported the same issue after the recent update (version 16.98, June 2025). The oversized SmartArt text pane, misaligned clicks, and inability to scroll properly are all symptoms of a bug that’s currently being discussed in the community.

While we wait for an official fix from Microsoft, here are a few things you can try:

  1. Use an external monitor as a temporary workaround, this seems to bypass the display scaling issue.
  2. Switch to Outline View to edit SmartArt content more easily.
  3. Send feedback directly to Microsoft via PowerPoint > Help > Contact Support.

Also, if you have a moment, please consider voting on similar bug reports in the Feedback community

(find out similar feedback, if not provide the feedback forum link Ideas · Community). The product team actively monitors feedback, and higher votes help prioritize fixes. Many features and improvements are driven by user reports like yours.

We’re all hoping for a quick resolution, and your input helps move things forward. If you’d like help drafting a bug report or tracking updates, I’d be happy to assist.

P.S. If you feel this response helped clarify the issue, it would be great if you could mark it as the answer. That way, other users who run into the same SmartArt problem on MacBooks can find the solution more quickly. Every marked answer helps the community grow stronger and more helpful!

Thanks again for your patience and for raising awareness, fingers crossed we’ll see a fix soon!
Best regards,

Thu-D/Microsoft Community Support Specialist
