When I click on the symbols tool from the insert tab and select more symbols, I can't select any symbol displayed. This occurs in both word 365 and excel 365

Thanks Thomas. I don't see an OfficeOld folder in the registry editor. There is an office folder but it will not let me rename it to officeold. I even tried reloading the Microsoft 365 apps and even that did not fix the problem.

This is the issue. Using either excel 365 or word 365 I activate the insert tab, click on the symbols tool and select More symbols to display the dialogue box shown below. I cannot click on or select any of the displayed icons. When I try to select any of the displayed symbols nothing happens, they are not selected

Are you having trouble with the drop-down menu when inserting symbols,

or is it that the new window under "More options" doesn't display other symbols?

Can you insert symbols in Office Online? This will help determine if the issue is specific to the application.

In any case, please refer to the following steps to try to reset Office:

Press the Windows key, search for 'Registry Editor', navigate to the Office folder, and if present, delete the 'Officeold' folder. Then, rename the 'Office' folder to 'Officeold'. If not, just rename the 'Office' folder to 'Officeold'.
