How to access additional audio channels in Clipchamp?

I record clips of playing games with friends so that my microphone and the system sounds are on two separate audio channels, but when I put it into Clipchamp, I only hear the system sounds. Is there a way to access the other audio channel? Right clicking the recording while it's in the media panel doesn't bring anything up, and right clicking it while it's on the timeline only gives the options to mute, detach, and remove pauses.

    Hello,Ciara Doering

Thanks for raising you concerns in Microsoft Community.

Accessing additional audio channels in Clipchamp can be a bit tricky because, Clipchamp primarily focuses on simplicity and may not offer advanced audio channel manipulation features found in more specialized video editing software. However, I can guide you through some steps and alternatives that might help you work with your multi-channel audio recordings.

    1. Detach Audio: Since right-clicking offers you the option to "detach" the audio, doing so will separate the audio from the video on the timeline, allowing you to manipulate it independently. This feature is more about separating the audio from the video rather than accessing different audio channels, but it's a start.
    2. Mute and Replace Audio: If Clipchamp is defaulting to one audio channel (e.g., your system sounds) and ignoring others (like your microphone), you might have to manually add the audio from your microphone by importing it as a separate file. This involves:
      • Muting the original audio track that Clipchamp is using.
      • Importing your microphone audio as a separate file (you might need to use an external tool to extract this audio from your recording first).
      • Syncing this audio manually with your video in Clipchamp.

Since Clipchamp might not support multi-channel audio directly, you may need to pre-process your audio tracks using an external audio editing tool to combine or switch between audio channels before importing to Clipchamp. As of Updated February 26, 2024, multi-track video or audio has not yet been launched on ClipChamp.

In article 2, developer team also recommended several free and open source video editing software, all of which support separating audio tracks. You can try to download and use them together.

However, it is still important to note that if your video file itself carries multiple audio tracks, you should consider more professional software to handle them. Because professional features for handling multiple audio tracks may be reserved for specific software, ClipChamp is designed for lightweight video editing.

Keep in mind that workflows involving multi-track audio can be complex, and finding the right tool for your specific needs may require some experimentation.
