Images in Excel are resizing when pasted as part of a row; "Move but don't size with cells" is already selected

Excel is currently resizing images within a row when the row is selected and pasted elsewhere in the same workbook or into a new workbook. The image format properties are set to "Move but don't size with cells". The images are screenshots pasted in from the clipboard. A screenshot example of what the image looks like before and after pasting is included below.

The workflow in which this issue was noticed involves selecting as few as one row, and as many as one hundred rows, so a fix must be provided to maintain the workflow that has been in place with all other user prior to now. It is necessary to select the entire row as the image appears in just one of the columns, and the other columns are populated with text that needs to be included with the single copy/paste action when work product submitted by multiple people is being compiled into one worksheet. This is a new issue that appears to only involve files created in the version of Excel in which I am operating (March 4 release: Version 2402 (Build 17328.20162)) running in an Inspiron 15 3520.

I have spoken with Microsoft Help via chat and phone. The technicians are able to replicate this issue using the latest version of Excel, but do not have a solution. They have ensured that my O365 is updated and repaired. Further, in trying to resolve the issue, I have updated my Office 365 and I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365.

Is the image resizing behavior Excel is currently demonstrating something that can be resolved by going back to a prior version of O365 and, if so, which version should I go back to? Can this be resolved through other action; not a workaround, perhaps a settings change?

    Hi Kelz,

Thanks for contributing to the Microsoft Community.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you. It appears like the issue you’re experiencing might be related to the specific version of Excel you’re using (March 4 release: Version 2402 (Build 17328.20162).

While rolling back to a prior version of Office 365 is not recommended, you can try using an older version of Excel to see if the problem persists. If you didn't encounter this problem last month, you can consider rolling back to Version 2401 (Build 17231.20236). Please follow the steps provided on this article to learn more about how to how to revert to an earlier version of Office. If the issue is with the version of Excel itself, I'm afraid modifying the Excel settings wouldn't help but rather an Excel update should fix it.

For the mean time, you can take part on the change for future update in Excel by sharing your feedback directly to our Microsoft developers via the Feedback Hub app. Rest assured they will be able to look into it and find ways to provide fixes on the next updates.

We appreciate your time and patience, and for bringing this to our attention.

    Sincerely,

    Froilance T.

Thank you for the response and for the confirmation that rolling back to a version prior to the issue may be the solution.

Using the instructions provided, I have tried rolling back several versions, back to Version 2401 (Build 17231.20236), without it resolving the issue.

Would you recommend I keep trying to resolve by installing versions going further back to find one that will work, or is the better course of action to proceed with providing feedback to the developers via the Feedback Hub app?

    Hi Kelz,

Thanks for writing us back and for trying out our suggestion. I was under the impression that this was working prior to the update of version 2402. If the issue is with the current version of Office only, this shouldn't persist after you rolled back to the previous build. Can you please confirm if that is the case or was it not working even before?

For now, you can try to go back to the version prior to 2401. If that doesn't work, consider reinstalling your Office using the uninstall support tool suggested on this article in Option 2: Uninstall Office from a PC. Make sure to back up all your important files especially if you are using Outlook app for your emails. Ensure to back up your calendars and contacts following the steps on this article: Export emails, contacts, and calendar items to Outlook using a .pst file. Kindly disregard if that doesn't apply.

    Sincerely,

    Froilance T.

    Hello,

I’m not able to confirm whether this was an issue before the latest Office update. I was only notified of the issue by someone who needs to work with my spreadsheets, and from there confirmed from others that they (a) were having similar issues, (b) the problem described was not an issue in the past.
