Math mode powerpoint mac ventura: \cdot & \alpha don't become symbols but stay text

When I enter the equation editor on my Mac Ventura in powerpoint, I cannot get symbols to appear that I can have appearing on my windows PC. This pertains e.g. \cdot and \alpha.

How can I fix this?

I found this article: https://superuser.com/questions/1401573/commands-like-cdot-and-delta-not-working-when-making-equations-in-ms-word-2018, which refers to Math AutoCorrect in powerpoint in a previous OS version of Mac. But that option I cannot find anymore in the Ventura OS.

Also, is there a shortcut to enter the equation editor in powerpoint in Mac?

Thanks in advance.

The reply in that article simply is wrong. That Math AutoCorrect Preference in Word does not affect any other program.

In Mac PowerPoint you need to select Equation on the Insert tab in order to get the result you're looking for. Those entries only work in math regions [i.e., equation content controls].

Also, an additional key [such as <spacebar>] after the shortcut needs to be pressed in order for the conversion to occur.

As for the shortcut, no. There is no built-in keyboard shortcut but it is an explicit menu command so one can be created using the macOS method.

I made this a separate reply because it's a second issue even though it's related.
