Problem of resizing images on Microsoft Word for Mac

When I drag the corner of the images on Microsoft Word to enlarge or reduce the size of them, Word does not function properly and the image just glitches - it turns upside down, becomes super large in an instant when I drag it inwards to reduce its size, etc. This is so frustrating! I have never encountered this problem before until I started to use it on a Macbook instead of a Windows laptop/desktop.

Same issue. ver. 16.62 MS Office for Mac. No dynamic visuals while dragging image/object handles, inserting simple shape objects would start out HUGE (96 inches), re-sizing existing images by click-dragging handles jumped the size up as well. No dynamic visual when moving objects/images. Quitting Grammarly Desktop solved the issue.

Use the Size Controls in the Size section of the Picture Format tab of the ribbon.

    Hi Hoi Lam

Thanks for posting the thread on our forum.

According to your description, it seems that you can’t drag the corner of the images in Word to resize the images.

As per your description, please don’t worry we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation.

    1. As Doug mentioned, you can use the size control> Picture format >size> to customize the height and width of the image.
    2. Use safe mode to check if the problem can be solved. Reference: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

    Appreciate your patience and understanding.

    Regards,

    Hi Stacey,

Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately, the problem still cannot be solved following your advice.

Here's more information for your reference:

    1. The problem happens in almost all Word documents of mine that contain words. It does not happen if it is a blank document with only one image in it and nothing else.
    2. My other office applications do not have this issue.

It is very frustrating because the same problem also happens when I try to crop an image on Word. The image suddenly moves around and I can never crop them properly.

Hi Doug! Thanks for your reply.

Although I do appreciate this function Word as an alternative way to resize images in my documents, it is pretty inconvenient as I don't know the exact size of the images I need in figures! I usually resize the images to fit other texts and images - so dragging from the corner of the images used to be a way more convenient way for me to resize (or crop) images. Unfortunately, it still doesn't work properly on my laptop.
