Word / DEX mode : Text selection issue

Hi,

Using DEX with my Samsung galaxy smartphone. Set up completed with keyboard and mouse (logitech, bluetooth).

Maybe a stupid setting to modify, but I am experiencing issues with Word when I want to select text with the mouse. I mean I cannot do it with the usual method : by clicking where I want want to begin the selection, holding down the left mouse button, and then dragging the pointer over the text that I want. The only way to select is by double clicking a word which is definitely not comfortable.

I do not experiencing the same issue on Powerpoint or any other apps.

I've already tried to uninstall word / office from the smartphone. But no change.

Any idea ?

    Hi,

Sorry for the late reply due to the christmas period.

I basically reset my office app, but no change. My understanding is that this is definitely related to the way World for mobile is designed. It looks to be settled as for a touch mode. Even with an external mouse plugged.

Having said that, I read somewhere that by cliking on shift + double clicking on the mouse will let me select text through highlighting. The selection appears only once mouse button has been released, but this works. Not very comfortable, but at least this work...

As a reminder, I do not have a samsung tabl, but a fondable smartphone (zfold3).

I will try to upload the video once again asap, as you requested.

    Best regards,

    Hi,

Test done with another android smartphone. Same result. Can't select a text through highlighting.

In the meantime, I got a feedback from Samsung assistance. They basically say that the issue I'm talking about is related to Microsoft Word Mobile. The software being optimized for mobile use, the way to select text has not been designed for using an external mouse.

I let you confirm whether it is true or not.

In case you confirm, may I suggest that this is not really suitable for DEX mode, where the experience promised is to use the smartphone as a PC. Maybe something to improve for further update.

    Best,

    Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply. My feedback below:

    • Have you tried using a different mouse? YES but no change. I am experiencing the same issue. it doesn't seem to be related with the mouse.
    • Can you please try to select text in Word online and see if you will be experiencing the same problem. Click here: Word Same issue from my Samsung Galaxy Z smartphone, but working fine from my computer
    • Are you only experiencing this issue when you're on a DEX mode? how about on a normal Windows computer? is it working fine? Just checked. Not only on DEX mode. Same issue with the smartphone on normal mode. Working fine on a normal Windows or Mac computer
    • What is your Word app version? ( ex. Microsoft 365 for Business or Microsoft 365 Family/Personal) Please go to File>Account, capture a screenshot of Product Information, as shown below. Office Android app. Version 1.0.1. I enjoy a Microsoft 365 family subscription.
    • Screen recording. I am afraid screen recording function is not available on Office Android App. Anyway I tried to record the issue on this video: https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ak9Ijjrw9oiejzamW0gjXwqTuA7s?e=Jkdbz3

Hope this helps. Looks to be related with the mobile version of the app. Or my smartphone settings. But can't figure out how to fix this.
