Unfollowing Group Emails, but Still Receiving Meeting Invitations

I have set up several Groups for project teams in my office. These team members "follow" or "unfollow" the Group's inbox based on who's assigned to respond to messages on behalf of the Group during a certain periods of time. Team members (myself included) who have unfollowed the Group's messages are still receiving meeting invitations sent to the Group email address, and we can't figure out how to make it stop. When we unfollow the Group's inbox, we don't want to receive any messages, regardless of the type -- email or meeting invitation. Is there a setting that I can use to allow Group members to stop receiving all message types when they unfollow the Group? Thank you!

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for your updates.

If the group option “ Subscribe New Members” has been enabled, and the group members are still receiving group invitation emails in their own inbox folder. In this case,  your group members ( including yourself) can try to sign into the office 365 outlook web app(https://outlook.office365.com/owa/ )and then find out the group settings which is on the up-right corner of the outlook web app, follow the steps below to have a try:

1.       Click the office 365 group which you don’t want to receive invitation emails in your inbox folder.

2.       Please click the group settings, and then choose “ manage group email” in the settings

3.       In the Stop following in inbox settings, please try to "choose receive only replies to you" or  “Don’t receive any group messages option”.

4.       Save your changes and then check if you still receive the invitation emails in the group.

If you got any updates, welcome to share with me, thanks.

Regards,

Oliver

    Hi Leslie,

    Thanks for your clarification.

If your office 365 group members have unfollowed the group and they still receive the meeting invitations emails in their own inbox folder, as an global admin of your organization, you can try to check if you have checked the option “ subscribe new members” of your office 365 group, please follow the steps below and have a check:

    1.       Please use the admin account to sign into the Office 365 Exchange Admin Center ( https://outlook.office365.com/ecp/ ).

    2.       Please Navigate to Recipients > Groups.

    3.       Find out your office 365 group which you don’t want the members to receive the invitations in their inbox folder.

    4.       Double click it and check if you have enabled the option “ subscribe new members”, if not, please enable it and save your changes. This make take some time to take effect, so please wait for it with patience.

    5.       Please make sure your members have unfollowed the group, this is important.

If you got any updates, please feel free to share with me.

    Regards,

    Oliver

    Thank you, Oliver.

Yes, we are using Office 365 Groups; however, we're using the Group email address with consultants who work outside of our organization. The consultants are external, and they are sending meeting requests to the Group email address, and that is how the meeting requests are showing up in the inboxes of Group members who have unfollowed the Group inbox. I'm sorry -- I should have provided additional context. Do you have any advice as to how I can make that stop?

    Hi Leslie,

As you posted this thread on outlook/windows 10/office 365 for business category, my understanding is that you are using office 365 groups. Please clarify me if I misunderstand your text. In this case, if you have unfollowed the office 365 group, you will only receive the copies replies to your and the group events in your inbox folder. In other words, if the sender send emails to the group, and when your email address is not listed in the group “ To” filed, the emails will be sent to the group’s inbox folder rather than sending a copy to your inbox folder.

Moreover, if you don’t want the group members to receive the meeting invitations when you create the meetings in the group calendars, this is available in the outlook web app( https://outlook.office365.com/owa/ ). When you create the meetings in the group calendar, please uncheck the option” send a meeting invitation to group members”, then the invitation will not be send to your group members. For your reference

If you have any other concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Regards,

    Oliver
