Missing Groups in Microsoft Teams

Howdy Comrades!

Recently employees in our organization started encountering an issue where users who are a member/owner of a team are no longer seeing that group populate on their "Teams" tab in the desktop application. The users will still get activity notifications for the group, they are also still listed as members/owners of the group in the admin center, however, the Team itself does not show up on the "Teams" tab of the desktop application.

For example, I am personally the member of 12 individual teams. I can see all 12 per the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. However, multiple teams that I am a member/owner of do not show up in the desktop application.

Admin Center 12 Teams:

Desktop App 9 Teams:

When I use the browser version of Microsoft Teams, all of the missing groups show up on the "Teams" tab. Which leads us to think it is a cache issue with the desktop application. However, after trying all the cache clear techniques we know, the issue still persists.

Troubleshooting Attempts:

  • Sign out/in Teams application.
  • Repair App.
  • Reset App.
  • Delete cache folder .
  • Uninstall and reinstall application.

Version Information:

It does not look like there are any current advisories in the M365 admin center about this issue, so I wanted to check if anyone else here is running into these issues and if so, have you been able to mitigate them at all? We are also going to open a support case with Microsoft, but those can be a bit slow, so I wanted to check here first.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Good day!

Thanks for posting into the Microsoft Community. We're glad to assist you.

According to your description, I understand that you are experiencing an issue where some of the Teams you are a member/owner of are not showing up on the "Teams" tab in the desktop application, even though you can see them in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center and the browser version of Teams.

Based on the troubleshooting attempts you have already made, it seems like you have already tried the basic steps to resolve the issue. Since the issue persists, it looks like the newest service issue in Teams. Please refer below information:

TM773599

Title: Some users are missing some teams and channels in the new Microsoft Teams desktop and web clients

User impact: Users are missing some teams and channels in the new Microsoft Teams desktop and web clients.

Current status: We've determined that a portion of database infrastructure that facilitates the affected teams and channels wasn't processing data requests for those teams and channels, resulting in impact. These requests were routed through alternate database infrastructure to resolve that portion of the problem and we've implemented a fix to restore Microsoft Teams channels. We're reaching out to affected users to confirm impact is remediated.

Scope of impact: Your organization is affected by this event, and some users attempting to view teams and channels in the new Microsoft Teams desktop and web clients are impacted.

Root cause: A portion of database infrastructure that facilitates the affected teams and channels wasn't processing data requests for those teams and channels, resulting in impact.

Meanwhie, Teams' engineering team are working on this, please give some patience and we will inform you in here once we have the new update of this issue. And, please use Teams Web Application as a workaround teamporarily.

Again, thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Hope you all the best!

We do have a temporary work around for the disappearing Teams in the desktop app. As the users are still apart of the groups in the back-end, it looks like you can search for the exact name of the team and select it in the app, it will then add it back to the users list of teams.

Not sure how long this will add it back for, but it does give them temporary access to their team in the desktop app again.

    1. Open Teams.
    2. Click in the “Search” field.
    3. Search for the exact name of the missing Team.
    4. Click to open the Team.
    5. This should then add the team back for them in the desktop application.

Awesome! Thank you for the information.

I can currently see 6 Health Advisories for Microsoft Teams; however, I do not see TM773599. I also get an access error when attempting to view it directly. Was it already resolved and closed?
