Hello Volodymyr,
Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the Microsoft Q&A.
When you deleted your old alias, Microsoft generally removes such addresses permanently, especially Hotmail ones. That's why you can't add it back and see the "reserved domain" message.
However, it is unusual that emails are still being sent to that deleted address, and are reaching something linked to your account, but they aren't appearing in your inbox. This means the emails are likely stuck somewhere on Microsoft's side, and you'll need their help to find them or redirect them.
Given the information, here are the most likely scenarios and how to address them:
- The alias wasn't fully deleted, but rather disconnected or misconfigured:
- Check "Send and Receive" accounts, specifically in the "Mail" or "Outlook" section, for any "Connected accounts" or "Send and receive" settings. It's possible the alias is still listed there but has a sync error or misconfiguration.
- If found, you can try to re-authenticate or re-configure the alias within those settings.
- The emails are being delivered to a hidden or archived folder:
- You can check by searching all folders (including Junk/Spam, Deleted Items, and any custom folders you might have created) using the search function in Outlook.com. Search for emails that you know were sent to the deleted alias after you deleted it.
- Check "Rules": It's possible there's an old rule set up that is moving emails from that alias to a specific folder or even deleting them.
- If emails are found, you can adjust rules or move them to your inbox.
- The alias was deleted, but there's a lingering forwarding rule on Microsoft's server side: In this case, you should contact Microsoft Support. You can find them by clicking on this link and following the directions below:
- Visit this website: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus
- Select the product you need help with
- Type your problems in the search box there.
- Now click on Get Help > Contact Support below.
- Go to the Products & Services tab and choose Windows or Microsoft 365 and Office
- On the Category tab, choose Manage account security
- Go to Confirm.
- Choose to chat with a support agent in your web browser.
You need to clearly explain:
- Your main account
- The alias you deleted
- The exact error message ("This email address is part of a reserved domain").
- Crucially, that you still receive emails to the deleted alias, but they don't appear in your inbox,
Note: The contact support team only works at certain times, so if the last window says it's not there, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.
Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
Warm regards
