In Microsoft Planner, each time a person is assigned a task in planner, an email notification is generated. i prefer to not send several emails to a team when I create a schedule that has the goal of creating a visual for a presentation, distributing work, or studying resource loads. As i edit the plan, numerous emails are sent to team members. I have read several articles that show how a user can disable receiving notifications but I cannot determine how to disable sending notifications. My opinion is this is too many notifications too early. A simple solution would be to disable sending notifications. any change while disabled does not send notifications. Any change while enabled, sends notifications. i don't think enabling notifications should retroactively send emails per task to assigned users.

Dear RyanMoore,
Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!

For your situation, please take note this point:

Microsoft Planner does not currently offer a built-in option to disable sending email notifications when assigning tasks to others. The notifications are automatically triggered and sent to assignees' inboxes as part of Planner's default behavior.

However, you can inform the users turn off receiving notifications as a work around:

  • The user can open Microsoft Planner (either via planner.microsoft.com or inside Microsoft Teams).
  • You click the Settings icon in the top-right corner. Then you select Notifications and uncheck the following options:

“Email me when someone assigns a task to me”

“Email me when a task is late or due today”

Additionally, Microsoft is actively working to improve Planner, and your feedback is incredibly important in shaping future updates. I kindly encourage you to submit your feedback directly via the Microsoft Feedback Portal.

You can do that here: Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub:

  • Go to Help > Feedback > Send Feedback
  • Describe your suggestion in detail.       Picture

Every submission is reviewed, and many product enhancements have come directly from user input. I’ll also submit feedback myself, as it’s clear that many users are experiencing the same issue.

Once again, I hope you understand that Planner is one of the products Microsoft is aiming to strengthen, especially in response to the growing demand for flexible scheduling tools. I truly appreciate your understanding and patience as Microsoft continue to evolve the platform.

Hello, Has there been any progress on this matter. I find it very important to be able to disable sending notifications. I see it as a major set back and hence will look for another tool to collaborate.

    Thank you so much!
