To access my Microsoft account, I'm using the Authenticator app for validation. Therefore, I don't use a password; I simply approve the login from the notification I receive in the Authenticator app. This worked until now, but now I get a message saying "That password is incorrect for your Microsoft account" (see the image below), even though I'm not using a password! In the Authenticator app, I don't receive any error, just the message that the login was approved successfully.
I've reinstalled the Authenticator app, disabled and re-enabled alternative login methods... Nothing works. The issue has occurred on both my smartphone and my laptop.

FrancineFishpaw 15 Reputation points2025-07-17T23:07:04.78+00:00 I'm having the exact same issue since yesterday - I am unable to use non-Outlook email clients on my Android device as I can't sign in. Authenticator says approved - but then I get the same 'password is incorrect' error. Looks like MS has introduced some kind of bug. Update: Can't even login to my account through the browser!
Update 2: Just spoke with support - apparently MS is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

Azeem Cv 56 Reputation points2025-07-19T11:51:09.28+00:00 I have the same issue. Now, I am unable to get codes sent via Outlook. That option has been removed from my account. I cannot add it back. To get codes getting pushed, I have to use Microsoft Authenticator App. Anyone else has this issue?

I contacted Support yesterday and the agent literally spend an hour trying to fix it, until they eventually gave up and called in their supervisor to look at it and they had no idea what was going on either. In the end they recommended that I go back to using a password - not really all that secure - and they opened a Feedback Hub ticket.
