Tenant Lockout – Cannot Access Azure Portal or Resources Anymore

Summary:
I appear to be locked out of my Azure tenant and can no longer access my deployed resources (backend and SQL DB), which might be incurring costs. I'm unable to create new directories, stop resources, or open support tickets due to missing permissions, despite being the only admin user originally.

Context

I previously published my backend (ASP.NET Core) and SQL DB from Visual Studio 2022 using my personal Microsoft account (******@web.de). Azure automatically created a tenant:

  • Directory Name: danielosterholzweb.onmicrosoft.com
  • Directory ID: c055f161-ead5-45f8-875e-a6b8e60b15f8

Since then, I’ve been experiencing increasingly severe access issues.

Error Messages Encountered

  1. AADSTS50020

User account '******@web.de' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'Standardverzeichnis' and cannot access the application 'c44b4083-3bb0-49c1-b47d-974e53cbdf3c'(Azure Portal) in that tenant.

  2. Limited or No Access

You are not a member of this tenant and do not have access to this directory or any subscriptions/resources within.

  3. Support Portal Fails

interaction_required: AADSTS16000: User account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application 'Microsoft_Azure_SupportPortalExtension'.

  4. No Access to Microsoft Entra ID

I cannot open the Microsoft Entra portal, switch tenants, or invite users.

Impact

  • I am locked out of my only tenant.
  • I cannot view or stop any of my Azure resources (e.g., backend, database).
  • I cannot raise support tickets (blocked by access issues).
  • I cannot create new tenants.

Ready for Private Reply (PII)

Hello Daniel Osterholz,

Please try logging in by targeting your tenant ID or domain name directly. This will force the authentication request to be redirected to your specific tenant.

You can use one of the following URLs:

https://portal.azure.com/<tenant_ID>

https://portal.azure.com/<domain_name>

I’ve shared more details with you via private message. Please check, and if this does not resolve the issue, kindly share the required details so we can engage the Data Protection team.

It worked! I can access everything again. After clicking on “Forgot password”, I was able to set a new password and log back into my tenant.

    Thank you!
