Please try the following steps:

>> Right-click the Start button and select Settings.

Go to Privacy & Security > Search permissions.

Turn off Show search highlights.

>> Restart Windows Explorer

  1. On your keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc
  2. Choose the Processes tab.
  3. Scroll down and find Windows Explorer
  4. Right-click on it then select Restart.

>> Run SFC and DISM to fix corrupted system files.

exactly! Thank you. I have done this in the past (a couple of years ago) but couldn't recall where/what.

I do have another issue, if you are willing (?)

You suggested that I run sfc and Restore Health. However, the link you provided clearly states that the Restore Health be performed first and only after seeing "operation completed successfully", to run sfc /scannow. Which is correct?

Right clicking on an empty space brings up 2 choices: Task Manager and Taskbar settings; it does not show Search.

And, after clicking on Taskbar Settings, the only options are :Search Icon only, Search Icon and Label and Search box.

    I am using Windows 11.
