My laptop keyboard just don't function properly and it gives wrong inputs

Hi,

I left a HP 15s gr00 laptop for screen repair, when i came back i found out about some issues with my laptop keyboard sometimes or most times my laptop keyboard gives wrong input such as when i press Win + Prnt sc it opens up game bar andan another instance when i double click on softwares, it opens their properties for some reason. I don't know what could be the reason. Sometimes for temporary my keyboard seems to work completely fine like a normal keyboard but most times i can't able to use my keyboard properly. I have also turned off sticky keys and other settings even tried changing language and inputs but no success. I even tried using the On screen keyboard as well as I tried using my phone as a mouse/keyboard but even that won't do anything. Not to mention when i am in BIOS they keyboard still doesn't function properly. As far as i know i don't think there is any hardware or external damage to keyboard. Two possible reasons came to mind and that is either a Virus or an Outdated drivers.

If its an Outdated driver please tell what drivers i need to update.

Thanks

Hi Ash, good morning! Thank you for the additional details and the screenshots.

Since the issue began right after your laptop was returned from service, and you're seeing the same erratic behavior even in the BIOS and with the On-Screen Keyboard, it does seem likely this may be a hardware issue introduced during the repair. Although there’s no visible physical damage, something internal might have been affected.

To rule out any remaining software conflicts or driver issues, here’s a link to some additional troubleshooting steps from Greg, another Independent Advisor: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

If these steps don’t resolve it, I’d suggest reaching out to the repair service to report the issue, as it could be linked to the recent repair. Please keep me updated on how it goes!

I've included 3 photos of Windows version,On screen Keyboard and System info.

If you see in the OSK it shows wrong alphabets and for some keys it straight up don't even show this is exactly what i face in my keyboard. Some keys not working or just straight up typing wrong characters. Sometimes i have to repeatedly press a key in order for it to register the input. Right now as im writing this, the keyboard seems to work fine but i want to find the cause and ensur that the issue is resolved permanently I have also updated my display driver now.

EDIT : Keyboard driver seems to be working correctly, I've also ran the toroubleshooter and encountered no errors

Hi Ash, I'm John, a fellow Microsoft user like you.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Let's work together to resolve this issue. Could you clarify what exactly happens when you use the On-Screen Keyboard and what occurs when you're in the BIOS with the laptop keyboard?

Please also check Device Manager to see if there are any driver errors. Specifically, look at the keyboard driver properties, and if possible, capture a screenshot and attach it to your next response.

Also, kindly share a screenshot of your System Information page. Here’s a quick guide on how to access it:

    > Press Windows + R key to open Run dialog.

    > Type this and press Enter: msinfo32

    > Capture a full screenshot of the System Information window and attach it in your next response.

Also please provide me with a screenshot of your current Windows 10 OS Build:

    > To do this, press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog, type "winver" (without the quotes), and capture a screenshot (make sure not to include your email address), and attach the screenshot in your next response.

Any additional information you can provide will be helpful in diagnosing and resolving the issue.

Click "Reply" below to let me know the answer to my questions and attach the screenshot.

    Regards, John J.D.
