Upgrade from Windows 11 Home Single Language to Windows 11 Pro via Microsoft Store

Hi, I have recently bought a new Asus laptop that was preinstalled with Windows 11 Home Single Language (English US). I need to use/type other languages such as English UK, Chinese, etc. for work purpose, however the preinstalled Windows 11 Home Single Language doesn't allow installation of additional language pack. Hence, I have purchased the Upgrade to Windows 10/11 Pro via Microsoft Store yesterday. But when I click the "install" button on the Microsoft Store page, it brings up a pop-up window stating "Preparing for upgrade. This might take a while. Don't turn off your PC." and the preparing process just stuck at "0% complete" forever. I have let the laptop on for few hours, and the pop-up window remained showing this same message without showing any progress. Can anyone help with this issue? Or my money just gone down the drain?

Hi.

If the shown Windows edition in Settings > System > Activation is not Pro, you can apply the key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T to change your version to Pro. This is generic key and will not activate Windows. As soon as you perform updates and install the Pro version, go to Microsoft Store to activate your copy.

Hi Chin! My name is David. I am a user of Microsoft products like you, and it is a pleasure to greet you.

Regarding your issue, if the update from Home Single Language to Pro that you purchased from the Microsoft Store doesn't start, it might be due to a problem with the Store app itself. However, you don't need to worry, you haven't lost your money. I can suggest the following processes:

  1. Although common, initially restart your PC and try again if you haven't done so.
  2. Press "Windows + R" and type "wsreset.exe" then press Enter, this should clear the Store cache. After this, try the update again.
  3. Go to Start > Settings > System > System Components > Microsoft Store, click on the three dots (...) and select advanced options, here select repair. After this, try again.
  4. Another method you can try is to generate the update using the generic key for Windows 11 Pro (VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T) from Start > Settings > System > Activation > Change product key. Adding the product key in this way should also initiate the system update. However, it is important to ensure that you are signed in with the Microsoft account that you used to purchase the update in the Microsoft Store.

Note: This product key does not represent any form of an activation key and is the default key that Microsoft includes in Windows 11 Pro generically.

Let me know if the shared information has been helpful. Regards.
