Message "SecurityHealthSSO.dll" contains an error.

I am getting a popup message on booting into Windows 11. It says, "C:\Windows\System32/SecurityHealth\10.0.027777.1008-0\SecurityHealthSSO.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original install media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."

This is essentially the same as others have reported. Like here - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/message-securityhealthssodll-contains-an-error/bfbe2ce5-b37c-423d-a84a-a0869db7aee0

It includes a link to another website - https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/securityhealthsystray-bad-image-0xc000012f/

Following those instructions, I can't successfully complete each step. In the second one, it asks us to:

  • Extract the appropriate version of SecurityHealthSSO.dll to C:\Temp. You need to extract the DLL that corresponds to the security platform version mentioned in the error message.

I had trouble with this step. I was not sure how to extract the .dll file to the right C:\Temp folder. Also, when I tried to create a new folder named Temp, it asks me if I wanted to merge it with C:\temp. I tried just copying the Dll file, but that did not work. It says "The system cannot find the path specified." when I type "cd /d c:\windows\system32\securityHealth\10.0.027777.1008-0" The other commands seemed to run fine.

I have tried a few other solutions but nothing has worked so far

Please run:

  • cd /d c:\windows\system32\securityHealth\10.0.27777.1008-0
  • takeown /f SecurityHealthSSO.dll /a
  • icacls SecurityHealthSSO.dll /grant *S-1-5-32-544:(F)

Post the screenshot of the Command Prompt window.

Now, copy the downloaded "SecurityHealthSSO.dll" file to "C:\Windows\System32\SecurityHealth\10.0.27777.1008-0" using File Explorer. Overwrite the target file when prompted.

This was helpful as I was having the same blocks. Thank you, the above commands were after following the original linked post if I am following along right?

    Note:

The command applies if the error message dialog mentions the version number 10.0.27777.1008-0. If it's a different version, you need to use the appropriate version number in the command line. Some systems may be running the security platform version 10.0.27703.1006-0. For more clarity, post a screenshot of the error.

The basic copy and paste with ctrl c didn't work. I had to use the command line to do it. I used "copy /y C:\Temp\SecurityHealthSSO.dll"

Thank you. I was able to do things this time. However, when I first tried to copy and overwrite the DLL file, it said I needed permission. Yet it still deny my trying to give it it permission. I then tried to do it via the command prompt. I used "copy /y C:\Temp\SecurityHealthSSO.dll" and it may have worked. I was asked to restart as part of that fix.
