Using a Surface Laptop 7. Printer is Samsung Xpress M2870FW. When use microsoft Print Wizard, no printer is found. When select manually add older printer, no printer is found. When download newest driver from Samsung (now HP) an error occurs during installation saying that no INF found is found. INF files can be seen when look at files on the Windows file explorer. I do not know what much of this means.

    Hi Jenkins_208,

Thank you for posting here in Community.

That sounds frustrating—I can imagine how annoying it must be when a printer refuses to cooperate! But don’t worry, I’m here to help, and we’ll get this sorted out step by step.

Since you’re encountering the “INF not found” error when installing the Samsung (now HP) driver, here are some troubleshooting steps that should help:

    Ensure Compatibility

    • Confirm that the driver you downloaded is designed for Windows 11 (assuming you’re using that on the Surface Laptop 7). If it’s for an older version of Windows, it may not work properly.

    Run the Installer as Administrator

    • Right-click the driver setup file and select Run as administrator to give it the necessary permissions.

    Manually Install the INF File

    • If the error occurs even though you can see INF files in File Explorer, try manually installing the driver:
      1. Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
      2. Locate your printer under Printers (or check under Other devices if it’s unrecognized).
      3. Right-click and select Update Driver.
      4. Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
      5. Navigate to the folder where the INF files are stored.
      6. Select the appropriate INF file and proceed with installation.

    Extract the Driver Properly

    • If the downloaded driver is in a ZIP file, extract it first:
      1. Right-click the ZIP file and select Extract All.
      2. Then try running the installer or manually installing from Device Manager.

    Disable Driver Signature Enforcement (Temporary)

    • Some third-party drivers may not be signed correctly. You can try temporarily disabling driver signature enforcement:
      1. Open the Start Menu and type Advanced Startup Settings.
      2. Click Restart Now under "Advanced Startup."
      3. Navigate to Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings.
      4. Click Restart, then select Disable driver signature enforcement.
      5. Try reinstalling the driver.

    Use Windows Update for Drivers

    • Go to Settings → Windows Update → Advanced Options → Optional Updates and check if a driver update for the Samsung Xpress M2870FW is available.

    Try a Generic Driver

    • If installation continues to fail, you can try using a generic PCL or PostScript driver:
      1. In the Add Printer Wizard, select Generic Printer Driver.
      2. See if basic printing functionality works.
      3. You can later attempt to install the specific Samsung driver.

    Check HP Support for Alternatives

    • Since HP took over Samsung’s printer division, their latest drivers might differ from what Samsung originally provided. Try searching for your model on HP’s official support site: HP Support.

    Perform a Clean Reinstall

    • If none of the above work, uninstall any existing Samsung printer software first:
      1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed Apps.
      2. Remove any Samsung/HP printer-related drivers.
      3. Restart your PC.
      4. Try a fresh installation of the driver.

I know troubleshooting tech issues can feel overwhelming, but take it one step at a time. Let me know if anything doesn’t work as expected—I’ll be happy to refine the approach! You’ve got this.

    Best regards,
