I'm running Windows 8 Pro. When I go to the update center I see I've got 5 important updates, and 1 optional update. When I try to install them I get the Error Code 80240016 Windows Update is currently installing other updates. Please try again in a few minutes.

I have been waiting for three hours now. I have restarted my computer several times but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I've had exactly the same problem trying to process Windows 8 updates.

Tried method 1: resulted in an apparent program loop with the message 'Clearing BITS queue'. How long should this process run for? Over 20mins!

Tried method 2: resulted in the message 'The service is not responding to the control function'. This occured on both Net stop wuauserv and Net start wuauserv commands.

I updated the operating system last week from Windows 7 and so far Windows 8 appears to be working OK.

    Any more ideas?

    Hi Deepak,

I had a hard drive failure after following your steps and I had to reinstall Windows 8. However the update is working now.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

As I understand you are facing issue with installing updates and keep getting the following error "Windows Update is currently installing other updates. Please try again in a few minutes" with error code: 80240016.

Let me know if I have misunderstood.

This issue occurs if a Windows Update client or a Microsoft Update client cannot access the user token.

I would suggest you to refer the methods mentioned below:

Method 1: Run the update troubleshooter

    a. Hover the mouse to the top right hand corner and click on search

**b.**Type control panel and hit enter

**c.**If the icons are not displayed in large size, click on category which is above the list and select large icons

    **d.**Now click on troubleshooting

**e.**Now, under system and security, click fix problems with Windows update and proceed further.

Method 2: Restart the update service

    a. Hover the mouse to the top right hand corner and click on search

**b.**Type cmd and right click on command prompt and run as administrator

**c.**Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command:

net stop wuauserv **** net start wuauserv

    **d.**Close the Command prompt window.

    Try to install updates again.

Hope this helps. If the issue persists, post back and I will be glad to help you.
