Sometimes, when troubleshooting a specific issue, you may be asked by a moderator, expert, or agent to share a particular set of files. These may be dump files, installation failure logs, or something else. This article explains how to share files in the Microsoft Community.

Since the Microsoft Q&A doesn't support sharing files required for troubleshooting, we need to use a file-sharing website like Microsoft OneDrive to share files and grant others access. I am here to explain the use of OneDrive as it is Microsoft's own service and doesn't need you to sign up - the credentials you use to sign in here can be used on OneDrive, too. Here are the steps in detail on how to share files.

  1. Gather the files you are asked for. I recommend copying them to the desktop, as most installation logs and dumps are located in protected folders within Windows directories and cannot be uploaded directly. You can also put all the files in a folder or compressed folder, so you don't have to share each file individually.
  2. Open Onedrive and sign in with your credentials, essentially the same you used to sign in here.
  3. Click Upload in the left bar and upload the desired file/folder.

  1. After finishing the upload, right-click the file or folder and select "Share".

  2. Additionally, you may set permissions to make the link expire after a specific date/revoke access to edit. Click anyone with the link can
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Paste the link of the file/folder to the reply of the question you have started.
