I bought Surface Pro 9 along with Surface Pro Signature Keyboard. After a year of usage, it stopped working.
It cannot b connected to the device, and the buttons with the lights, none of them are working. I tried several troubleshooting from the Microsoft Support but so far still not working.

I bought it from Australia website and have been with me for over a year now.

Please let me know how to fix the problem.

I know this is probably outdated, but leaving it here, just in case this is helpful to anyone else having this problem:

This is common especially after a factory reset. If you can't use your Surface Keyboard during the initial setup, use an external keyboard.

    • You can use a generic USB C hub, (I have an Acer 0DK390 9-in-1), and a generic Kensington keyboard probably less than 10 dollars.
    • Plug your USB-A keyboard into your USB C hub, and it works right out of the box, no configuration needed.
    • At least this way, you can get past initial setup, get a network, and get the updates and drivers necessary to get yourself going from there.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're experiencing issues with your Surface Pro Signature Keyboard. I value the time you have spent in trying to fix this problem. Let us both isolate this problem. Allow me to ask some questions.

    • Is there a chance for you to test the keyboard to another Surface or test another keyboard on your Surface device? This would help us determine if the problem is with the device or the keyboard itself.
    • When did this issue started?
    • Were there any changes made prior to this happening?

Here are some steps you can try to isolate the problem:

    1. Confirm Connectivity:
      • Press the Caps and Fn keys on your Surface Type Cover or Keyboard several times to check whether the LED lights turn on.
      • If the LED lights turn on, your problem may be with Windows and not the device itself. The next step is to reset your Surface:
    2. If the LED lights don't turn on, there might be a hardware issue. To verify in UEFI, do the following:
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Recovery.
      2. Next to Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
      3. Under Choose an option, select Troubleshoot> Advanced Options> UEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.
      4. Press the up and down arrow keys to change what is selected on the left side menu to check if the keys work or not.

The steps can be found at Troubleshoot Surface Type Cover or Keyboard - Microsoft Support.

I hope you will be able to test another keyboard or test the keyboard to another Surface device.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    Hi,

    I have the same problem and;

    • tested my keyboard on another device and it doesnt work
    • tested another keyboard on my device and it works
    • up and down keys not responsive in UEFI

Had this new with my Surface Pro 9 purchased Jan 23 - so now out of warrenty but thats disappointing spending $390 for less than 18months.

    Thank you,

    J
