Outlook deletes wrong email

When I am reading my long list of incoming emails and in the process of deleting one that I don't want to open, and at the same exact time a new email is received, Outlook will actually delete the last email I saved for reading later. I know when a new email comes in, the entire list automatically scrolls down causing the last saved email to be deleted instead. The deleted email that I wanted saved is moved to my trash can where it can be hard to find since I sometimes have over a hundred messages there. Can I do something to prevent this?

    Hello

I am having exactly this issue, repeatedly.

Outlook Classic; Microsoft 365 personal; Windows 11 Home; no rules or auto-archive set up.

    Thanks if you can help

    Alan
