Excel Checkboxes are not working in Office 365 for some users

A few of our users are unable to see checkboxes in Excel Online and instead see True or False instead.

Not all users, but at least two have this issue while others see Checkboxes.

Found that users who can see the check boxes have the Checkbox option under Insert -> Controls, while I myself do not have this option. Is there a way to add it to Excel 365?

Hi @Drew H

Could you please tell us how did you insert the check box?

If you inserted it via: Insert > Controls > Checkbox, please refer to Muhammad Ibraheem Ishtiaq's suggestion. You may also let these users change a browser for a check.
If you used check box controls from Developer tab, here is a link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/form-controls-9f201e46-8f6b-4a9d-a320-f44b28088cb0#ID0EBH=Web, you may have a look. Currently, we can't use check box controls in Excel for the web. If you see an "Edit in the browser?" or "Unsupported features" message and choose to edit the workbook in the browser anyway, all objects such as check boxes, are lost immediately.

Please check the Office update channel and version number. You may go to File > Account, check this information under Product Information.

Hi @Drew H

My apologies, there is no version number for Excel online.

But according to the image you shared, it seems that your Excel online version does not get this new feature.

As Checkbox control is a new feature, it is currently rolling out to all Excel for the web users. In my opinion, you need to wait patiently to receive this feature update.

Ensure that all users have the same level of permissions and that the file is shared correctly.
- Check if the issue persists in the desktop version of Excel. If the checkboxes appear correctly there, it confirms it’s an issue specific to Excel Online

Checked and each user has an E1 license and the same permissions.

The document is shared from one user's OneDrive to the others with each user having Edit access.

Downloading the file to the desktop version does not fix the issue.

Hi Drew H,

Make sure everyone is using a browser that is up-to-date and supported. Browser issues can sometimes cause problems with how Excel Online looks. Have the users who are having trouble clear their browser’s cache and cookies, as this can help fix display issues. Check that everyone has the same settings in Excel Online, since different settings can make things look different. Ensure everyone has the latest updates for Office 365, as updates might be released at different times. Try deleting and then recreating the checkboxes in the document, which can sometimes fix display problems.
