One Win10 computer ID (@outlook) required Windows Hello sign-in. On that 1st computer I set up a shared folder.

Using same ID on a 2nd Win10 computer, I wanted to access the shared folder on 1st computer.

I kept getting asked for ID & password and got message1 that ID did not have rights for access & conflicting message2 that password was wrong. I tried lots of things - including signing out & restarting 1st computer.

Solution that finally worked was clicking I forgot my PIN on 1st computer log-in and going through process (which includes entering password [& using alternate Microsoft account]) for setting up new PIN on 1st computer.

Suddenly, I could access the share from all other computers.

It seems that if Windows Hello is required, the Windows password is not stored for purpose of access to shared folders.

Is there an easier solution?

Hello Greg, Thank you for your question and for reaching out with your question today. Only passwords can be used for shred folder security on Windows. therefore, a PIN cannot be used as a remote authentication method to access a secure shred folder on another device. When you changed the PIN on the source computer, you must have inadvertently allowed access to the folder for all connected devices. You must use MicrosoftAccount******@mail.co.uk (this MicrosoftAccount prefix is important) as the username. If the reply was helpful, please don’t forget to upvote or accept as answer. Best regards.
