I'm running Teams on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 (remote VM for working). Past month I have issue to open links in chats/team channels. When I click on hyperlink, nothing happens.

I've checked default browser is set to Chrome.

I've tried to:

  • restart Teams
  • sign out&in to our corporate account
  • clear cache of browser and teams
  • change default browser
  • restart whole computer
  • reinstall application

I've tried to do the steps both separately and all of them at once with the computer restart at the end. Nothing helped.

I'll be greatful for any help.

Thanks

Got final response from Microsoft Support: this is well-known issue with Server 2016 for about a year now. As Server 2016 is out of maintenance support, there will be no fix.
The issue is related to maximum character URL-limitation by OS.
Two possible workarounds:

  • update to Server 2019
  • disable SafeLinks Policy in Security AdminCenter (including exeption for BuiltIn-default-policy) and wait 24h

The issue propagates through all tenants starting about a year ago... so some organisations are affected for quite some time and some only recently.

Teams Desktop App version 1.6.00.26474 (64-bit), doesn't allow me to open hyperlinks shared in chat nor can I click through and open Microsoft's own 'Learn More' links against various options within App Settings. Staff on either an older version of Teams 1.6.00.24078 or much newer version 23257.2614.2410.5635 are NOT affected. Appears to be isolated with version 1.6.00.26474. Is this related to the phishing attacks recently? https://blog.knowbe4.com/microsoft-teams-phishing-distributes-malware

For us the solution was to upgrade to 2019. IT infra guys told us there is an issue on 2016.

I also have the same problem on Server 2016 RDS. Updated to latest version (1.6.00.16472 (64-Bit)), tried changing default browser without any changes. No links within teams are opening.
