Why has my subscription been cancelled? I understand it will only expire in May 2027

Log into your Microsoft account on this link, check the expiry date listed on your subscription, is that listed correctly.

    https://account.microsoft.com/services/

If not, click the Billing icon on the left, is it indicated your payment has been processed correctly.

If there is no problem indicated with your subscription or payment on your account, please provide a screenshot of the error you see in the Office apps.

If your account shows an expiry date in May 2027, the subscription may only have recurring billing turned off—not ended immediately—and it should remain usable until that date.

    Check the exact subscription status

    1. Open the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased Microsoft 365.
    2. Locate the subscription and inspect the available action:
      • Turn on recurring billing: renewal has been cancelled, but the subscription remains active until the displayed expiry date. You should not be charged again unless you turn recurring billing back on.
      • Manage, Cancel, or Change payment: Microsoft manages the subscription; open Manage to review its billing and status.
      • Limited or missing management options: the subscription may have been purchased through Apple, Google, Amazon, or another retailer. That provider controls its cancellation and billing. Microsoft confirms that when Turn on recurring billing appears, the subscription is set to expire on the date shown and remains usable until then. ^2^

If Office has already stopped working

If the account page says the subscription is valid until May 2027 but Word, Excel, or another benefit reports Subscription cancelled, this conflicts with the displayed entitlement and requires an account-specific billing review.

For a subscription purchased directly from Microsoft:

    1. Open Microsoft Contact Support.
    2. Select Microsoft 365 → Get Home Support.
    3. Enter billing.
    4. Select Sign in to Contact Support and use the purchasing Microsoft account.
    5. Choose Contact Support.
    6. Select:
      • Products and services: Microsoft 365 and Office
      • Category: Manage my subscription
    7. Choose Chat with support agent in web browser. ^3^

Only Microsoft Support can inspect the account’s cancellation history, payment state, or entitlement records and determine why the status changed.

If it was purchased through an app store or retailer, contact that provider instead; Microsoft cannot modify or refund a third-party-managed subscription.
