Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Set Windows’ Country or region to United States, then install Office 2024 from the Microsoft account associated with the purchase rather than continuing through a setup page that offers only Lithuania.
1. Correct the Windows location setting
Your Microsoft account profile is already set correctly, but Windows maintains a separate regional setting.
- Windows 11: Start → Settings → Time & language → Language & region → Country or region → United States
- Windows 10: Start → Settings → Time & language → Region → Country or region → United States
Restart Windows afterward. These are the Microsoft-documented paths for changing the device/Store region.^1^
This does not establish that the previous remote-support session changed the setting; it only corrects the local setting Office may currently be reading.
2. Use the appropriate installation path
If the product key has already been redeemed
Do not enter the key again. A redeemed key is associated with a Microsoft account and should be installed through that account:
- Open the Microsoft 365 Apps page at
https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps. - Sign in with the Microsoft account used to redeem or purchase Office 2024.
- Select Install apps.
- Select Install.
- Run the downloaded installer and approve the Windows User Account Control prompt.
- When installation finishes, open Word and accept the license agreement to activate Office.^2^
If this is the first redemption
After changing the Windows region and restarting, return to the Office setup/redemption page and enter the key. Office keys must be redeemed in the country or region where they were purchased. Microsoft states that when the correct country is missing, the displayed list can indicate that the key is recognized as belonging to another region.^3^
If Lithuania is still the only choice
Do not select Lithuania merely to complete redemption. Because the product was purchased and is being redeemed in the United States, Microsoft Support must check how the key is region-coded. Keep the following available:
- Purchase receipt
- Product key or product-key card
- Retailer name and purchase date
- Screenshot showing Lithuania as the only available location
Use the Microsoft support link in the geographical-error article. Microsoft’s documented resolution for a missing country or mismatched region is to contact support; changing the Microsoft account profile alone does not correct a key that is recorded for another market.^3^
If Support confirms that the retailer supplied a key for the wrong region, request a correctly region-coded replacement or refund from that retailer.
