Install the ASUS audio driver variant that matches your X515JA’s hardware ID, because this model can use different supported audio hardware and the wrong package can leave “Speakers (Realtek Audio)” visible without producing sound.^1^
Install the matching ASUS driver
Since the previous agent already uninstalled the audio device, restarted the laptop, and checked the BIOS, do not repeat those steps first.
- Press Windows key + X, then select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click Realtek(R) Audio and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- From Property, select Hardware Ids.
- Keep this window open or take a picture of the displayed IDs.
- Open ASUS’s X515JA driver page and select the exact Windows 11 version installed on the laptop.^2^
- Use the ASUS no-sound article’s hardware-ID guidance to select the corresponding audio-driver variant—not a generic Realtek download.^1^
- Download and install that ASUS package, then select Start → Power → Restart.
- After restarting, open Settings → System → Sound, select Speakers (Realtek Audio) under Output, and test it.
If the ASUS page offers more than one audio-related component for the matching hardware, install the packages in the sequence shown by ASUS rather than choosing a package solely because its name contains “Realtek.”
If the correct ASUS package is installed but sound is still absent
Try these checks in order:
- Disable enhancements
- Go to Settings → System → Sound.
- Select Speakers (Realtek Audio).
- Set Audio enhancements to Off.
- Test the speakers. Audio enhancements can interfere after driver changes.^3^
- Restart the Windows audio service
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
services.msc and press Enter.
- Right-click Windows Audio and select Restart.
- Open its Properties and confirm Startup type is Automatic.^4^
- Test the Windows generic driver as a diagnostic fallback
- Open Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click Realtek(R) Audio.
- Select Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers → Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Select High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft), if listed, and complete the installation.
- Restart and test.^3^
If the generic driver produces sound, that isolates the issue to the Realtek/ASUS driver package. Return to the ASUS package matched to the hardware ID rather than continuing with a generic Realtek installer.
If neither the matching ASUS package nor the generic driver produces sound, test headphones or Bluetooth audio. If those work but the built-in speakers do not, contact ASUS support for a speaker, cable, or audio-board hardware check.
