Many years ago I had an Outlook account. Am I permitted to use Outlook again?

I do not want to access any old emails. I simply want to begin to use Outlook again, with Mac ios. It was easier to use than any email program I have used since then. I want to continue to use the email address I have been using ever since that time.

    Hi Tom Copeland,

Yes, you can use the Outlook app on your Mac again without returning to your old Outlook mailbox.

Outlook is an email application, so you can add the email address you currently use, even if it is provided by another email service. In Outlook for Mac, go to Outlook > Settings > Accounts > Add Account, enter your current email address, and follow the sign-in instructions.

Whether older messages appear will depend on what is currently stored in that email account and synchronized by the email provider. You do not need access to your former Outlook account unless you specifically want to use that old Outlook.com address again. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Yes. Outlook for Mac supports adding several account types, including Microsoft accounts, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live.com, MSN.com, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, and accounts that use POP or IMAP.

If the goal is to use Outlook again on Mac with the same email address currently in use, add that existing email account to Outlook for Mac:

    1. Open Outlook for Mac.
    2. Select Tools > Accounts... > + Add Account.
    3. Enter the current email address and select Continue.
    4. Follow the sign-in prompts.
    5. If a browser window opens, complete the provider sign-in and allow access.
    6. Select Done when setup finishes.

If Outlook detects the provider incorrectly, select Not [Google, iCloud, Yahoo, etc.]? and choose the correct provider manually.

For Yahoo or other IMAP or POP accounts, Outlook may send the sign-in flow to the provider’s website and ask for permission to access mail, contacts, and calendars. Select Allow to complete setup.

If there are two Microsoft accounts using the same email address, a “Which account do you want to use?” prompt can appear. In that case, choose the correct Personal account or Work or school account as needed. Personal Microsoft accounts and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts cannot be merged, but they can be used side by side.
