Having an issue signing into my GroupMe. After I enter email and password it asked for a two part authentication code that’s being sent to an old phone number I no longer have. I have no way to long in and change it

Use the GroupMe backup code created when two-step verification was enabled; if that code is unavailable, contact GroupMe Support, because the phone number cannot be changed from the locked-out sign-in screen.

If you saved the backup code

    1. Return to the GroupMe verification screen.
    2. Choose the option to use a backup code instead of the texted PIN.
    3. Enter the saved backup code.
    4. Once signed in, update the number:
      • Select your profile picture.
      • Select Edit profile.
      • Edit the current phone number.
      • Enter the new number and complete the PIN verification sent to it.
    5. Generate and securely save a new backup code.

GroupMe displays a backup code when two-step verification is first enabled, but it is displayed only once unless regenerated while signed in.^1^

If you do not have the backup code

    Contact GroupMe Support. Include:

    • The email address associated with the GroupMe account
    • The old phone number, including country code
    • The new phone number
    • A brief explanation that two-step verification sends the PIN to an inaccessible number
    • Any account details Support requests to establish ownership

Do not send your password or verification codes. GroupMe warns that losing both the registered phone and backup code can leave the account locked, so Support assistance is the remaining supported escalation and recovery is not guaranteed.^1^ Current support response times may be longer than usual.^2^

Microsoft-account recovery or Authenticator reset procedures do not replace GroupMe’s own two-step verification process.

    Hello,

When you first enabled two-factor authentication, you were given a backup code. If you took a screenshot or saved the code elsewhere, find it and use it to sign in to your account.

    use backup code (1)

If you lose your phone, the backup code will help you get into your account. Unfortunately, if you no longer have access to the Phone number or a backup code, you will no longer be able to sign in, and you may lose access to this account, as Microsoft doesn't provide any other ways to verify your identity.

You may have to create a new account with another number that you currently have active.
