The 'Repair Now' button on that error popup dialog only performs a quick repair of the Office apps and that rarely resolves the problem with the Office apps, the best option is to perform a full online repair of your Office installation.

Before performing this process to ensure you do not loose the Office installation during the repair, please log into your Microsoft account on this link (https://account.microsoft.com/services/) and check to ensure your Office licence or Microsoft 365 subscription is listed correctly on your account.

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Apps - Installed Apps or Apps and Features

Then, scroll down to find Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365.

Select that and choose Modify - Online Repair

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation.

If that does not resolve the problem, completely uninstall Office, restart your PC, then download and reinstall Office from your account online (https://account.microsoft.com/services/).

Run Online Repair from Windows Settings, rather than selecting Repair in Word’s error message; Online Repair is the more thorough repair method and applies to the entire Office suite.^1^

    Run Online Repair

Close Word and all other Office applications first.

    Windows 11

    1. Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
    3. Select the three dots (…) beside it, then select Modify.
    4. If asked for permission, select Yes.
    5. For a Click-to-Run installation, select Online Repair → Repair.
      • If you see an MSI-based installer instead, select Repair → Continue.
    6. Follow the prompts, then restart the computer if requested.

    Windows 10

    1. Right-click Start and select Apps and Features.
    2. Select Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office, then select Modify.
    3. Choose Online Repair → Repair.
    4. Complete the prompts and restart if requested.

This repairs the full Office installation even when only Word is failing.^1^

If Word opens but asks you to sign in

Sign in using the Microsoft account originally used to purchase or subscribe to Microsoft 365. You can verify that the subscription is active under the account’s Services & subscriptions page. Microsoft notes that using a different account can produce “We couldn't find any Office products.”^2^

If Online Repair does not fix it

    Completely uninstall and reinstall Office:

    1. Open Microsoft’s Office uninstall support page and start the uninstall troubleshooter.
    2. Allow it to open Get Help, then follow the prompts.
    3. Restart the computer when prompted.
    4. Reinstall the Office version associated with your Microsoft account.
    5. Open Word and sign in with that same account.

Uninstalling Office removes the applications but does not delete documents or workbooks you created. The uninstall troubleshooter requires Windows 10 or later and currently cannot remove Office 2024.^3^

Avoid manually deleting Office registry entries at this stage; the supported uninstall troubleshooter is the safer cleanup method.
