Run the Windows Activation troubleshooter while signed in with the Microsoft account previously used on this laptop; a clean reinstall of the same Windows 11 Home edition should reactivate through its digital license without extracting or entering a product key.
Reactivate the digital license
- Connect the laptop to the Internet.
- Open Settings → Accounts → Your info.
- Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account previously associated with the laptop, using an administrator account.
- Open Settings → System → Activation.
- Select Troubleshoot.
- If offered, select Activate Windows, then Activate.
The Troubleshoot option appears only while Windows is not activated and requires administrator access.^1^
If the troubleshooter reports that the hardware changed:
- Select I changed hardware on this device recently.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account formerly linked to the license.
- Select this laptop from the device list.
- Check This is the device I’m using right now.
- Select Activate.^2^
A USB reinstall by itself does not require selecting the hardware-change option; use it only if the troubleshooter presents that scenario or hardware was actually replaced.
Confirm that the installed edition matches
Your screenshot says Core edition, which corresponds to the Home installation shown being activated. Still, check Settings → System → Activation and confirm it says Windows 11 Home.
A digital license can reactivate only the matching edition:
- If the laptop previously had Windows 11 Home, the current Home installation is the correct edition.
- If it previously had Windows 11 Pro, choose Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro in the troubleshooter and then Start upgrade.
- If a Home license exists but Pro was installed, Windows 11 Home must be clean-installed; during setup, skip the product-key prompt. Microsoft documents that the existing Home digital license should activate automatically after installation.^1^
Do not reinstall again unless the troubleshooter identifies an edition mismatch.
Why the product-key command returned nothing
A blank result from:
(Get-CimInstance -ClassName SoftwareLicensingService).OA3xOriginalProductKey
does not by itself mean the license was lost. Windows 11 can use a digital license, which does not require a 25-character product key. Free upgrades and Microsoft Store Pro upgrades also use digital licenses rather than conventional product keys.^3^
Since key extraction returned nothing and slmgr /ato already produced the same error, repeating those commands will not provide a new recovery path.
If the troubleshooter still returns 0xC0EA000A
Contact Microsoft activation support so the license association can be checked:
- Open Microsoft Support at https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact.
- Search for Contact Support.
- Sign in with a personal Microsoft account, not a work or school account.
- Select Windows → Technical support.
- Choose the available browser chat or contact option.
- Provide:
- Error
0xC0EA000A - The message about the CLiP license device ID
- Confirmation that this is the same laptop after a clean USB reinstall
- The edition shown under Settings → System → Activation
- Whether the motherboard or other major hardware was replaced
- Error
Microsoft directs users to customer support when an activation code is not resolved by the documented troubleshooter.^4^
