New Windows 11 Home edition laptop unable to change operating language.

I have a Windows 11 Home edition laptop purchased in Spain. As I want this to be configured for English, I have been able to download and install the English language pack and most of Windows now works in English. However the operating system (25H2) and things like file explorer remain in Spanish. From what I read, the Home edition should allow me to change languages. I do not appear to have the single language edition.

Appreciate advice please

Thanks

Hi,

So let me explain this.

The Installation media was in Spanish and was used to install Windows. Then, if you install an English Language pack, some items, as you mentioned, will remain in Spanish. This is a limitation.

I wish I had a better answer, but to show everything in English, you'll need to reinstall Windows with a clean install using an English ISO.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you good luck!

Windows 11 Home supports multiple display languages unless the edition is Windows 11 Home Single Language. First verify the exact edition:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > System > About.
  2. Check Edition under Windows specifications.
  3. If it says Windows 11 Home Single Language, additional display languages cannot be fully installed. In that case, the supported path is to upgrade to Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro.

If it says Windows 11 Home, then English can be used and the current mixed Spanish/English UI is usually resolved by reinstalling and reapplying the display language:

  1. Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
  2. Under Preferred languages, confirm English is installed.
  3. Select English and make sure Language pack is installed.
  4. Set English as the Windows display language.
  5. Sign out when prompted, then sign back in.
  6. If Spanish is still showing in areas such as File Explorer, remove the existing English language and add it again:
    • In Language & region, remove English.
    • Restart the PC.
    • Select Add a language, add English again, and during installation select Set as my Windows display language.
    • Sign out and sign back in.

Important: changing the Windows display language can also change the keyboard layout at sign-in. Check the input language icon on the sign-in screen before entering the password.

If the interface still remains partially in Spanish after reinstalling the language pack and signing out/in, an accepted Microsoft Q&A resolution for this exact mixed-language behavior is an in-place repair install using the English Windows 11 ISO while keeping files and apps. Back up files first before proceeding.

Also note that Windows 11 does not support cross-language upgrades. During upgrades or migrations, the upgrade is supported only to the system default UI language, which can contribute to mixed-language results after an upgrade.
