Checked both my beta installs and found them working correctly. However, noticed that the RC doesn't work as well as it should for a while. Connections sometimes fail, having to initiate a connection via Windows explorer first - such as \computer\users\share. No problems after that

I'm sorry to hear Remote Desktop stopped working for you after the latest Beta update. Since the Insider program is meant for testing, issues like this can sometimes come with new builds. That said, I haven't been able to find any documented issue or community reports matching the behavior you described.
You may be one of the first to notice this, and since the details are still a bit unclear, it would be very helpful if you could run a few small tests for me. Most of them are quick checks and shouldn't take much of your time. Let's start by seeing whether any settings were accidentally changed:
1 - Check that Remote Desktop is still turned on
- Go to Settings > System > Remote Desktop.
- Make sure Remote Desktop is set to On.
- Check that your account is still listed.
2 - Restart the Remote Desktop service
- Press Win + R > type
services.msc> press Enter. - Find and right-click Remote Desktop Services > select Properties.
- Make sure its Startup type is set to Manual or Automatic (not Disabled).
- If it is Stopped, click Start. If it's already Running, click Restart.
3 - Roll back the update (depending on what's available to you)
- Open Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates and Uninstall the latest one.
- If this is not a separate update, try Settings > System > Recovery > Go back (available within 10 days).
Another thing to note is that Microsoft Q&A is just a user-to-user support forum. Contributors here don't have access to Microsoft's internal diagnostic or engineering systems. If Remote Desktop works again after rolling back, or you strongly believe this is a regression in the Insider build, I'd recommend reporting it through the official channel:
- Press Win + F to open the Feedback Hub > choose update category.
- Describe the problem and include the following details:
- The exact error message or code, if any
- Whether this PC is the one you connect from, connect to, or both
- Your Insider Beta build number (press Win + R > type
winver> press Enter) - Which app you use: Remote Desktop Connection, the Windows App, or another app.
Posting here can help bring in others who have seen the same behavior, but the Windows engineering team is unlikely to review this thread itself. Issues are only investigated when they're reported through the proper channel. I hope this will get looked into soon.
