Whenever we tried to use Snipping tool either via the print screen button or by the combination Shift + Windows + S, we get an error this file does not have an app associated with it. and when I try to repair the Snipping tool and try to update MS Store states that it is downloading and gets stuck at queued.

If the issue persists, please try performing an In-place Upgrade. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.

    Few things to check

Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting

Disable or uninstall any third-party antivirus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade

Please open PowerShell admin and run these two commands:

    get-appxpackage -allusers *Microsoft.ScreenSketch* | remove-appxpackage -allusers

    get-appxpackage -allusers *Microsoft.ScreenSketch*

If it shows an output, post the screenshot here.

    Hi Richee IT,

Since Snipping Tool is also stuck at Queued in Microsoft Store, I’d focus on clearing the Store download issue rather than repeating the Snipping Tool reinstall steps already suggested.

    Please try the following steps:

    1. Press Windows + R.
    2. Enter wsreset.exe and select OK.
    3. Microsoft Store should reopen automatically. Search for Snipping Tool and try the download/update again.
    4. Restart the PC and test Windows + Shift + S again.

Hopefully this helps isolate whether the issue is with the Store download rather than the Windows + Shift + S shortcut itself.

    Hi, good day!

To help narrow down the cause

When was the last time it worked properly?

Have you made any changes to your computer recently?

Let's try reinstalling the Snipping tool app via PowerShell

    • Uninstall Snipping Tool app

    Press Windows key + X

Click and Run Windows PowerShell/Terminal (Admin)

Copy and paste the command below then press Enter

    get-appxpackage *Microsoft.ScreenSketch* | remove-appxpackage

    • Proceed to reinstall Snipping Tool app

Go to the Microsoft Store then download and install the Snipping Tool app

or copy and paste the command below then press Enter

    Get-AppXPackage *Microsoft.ScreenSketch* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Restart your computer

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below.
