Hello Visual Studio Marketplace Support Team,

I am reaching out for assistance in regaining access to the publisher account associated with a VS Code extension that I originally created and published in 2020.

I am the original author and owner of the extension, but I no longer have access to the original publisher account following the migration and integration requirements involving Azure DevOps / Microsoft Entra ID.

I would like to recover access to the original publisher account if possible, rather than creating a new extension or abandoning the existing publisher identity.

Extension Details:

Proof of Ownership:

  • GitHub Repository: https://github.com/coolbeatz71/coolest-dark
  • I am the owner of the source code repository associated with the extension.
  • I can verify ownership through my GitHub account and provide any additional information you require.
  • If necessary, I can also add a temporary verification file or other verification information to the repository to demonstrate ownership of the extension.

Could you please help me recover access to the original publisher account associated with this extension?

If the original publisher account cannot be recovered, I would appreciate guidance on the appropriate process for transferring ownership of the existing extension to my current publisher account.

I am happy to provide any additional information or verification required to establish that I am the original author and owner of the extension.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Mutombo Jean-Vincent

    Hi @Mutombo jean-vincent ,

I’m sorry that you have been unable to access the publisher account for Coolest Dark. Based on the information you provided, the best next step is to contact the Visual Studio Marketplace team directly and request assistance with recovering the existing publisher identity.

This address was recently used successfully to reach the Visual Studio Marketplace team regarding a publisher and extension access issue.

Since your current Microsoft account is not associated with the original publisher, please contact the Visual Studio Marketplace team, you can get the email by sign in on https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/ and go to Manage Publisher & Extensions you will see the Contact Microsoft on the top right

    User's image

    In your email, please include:

    • Extension name:
    • Extension ID:
    • Original publisher ID:
    • Visual Studio Marketplace listing
    • GitHub source repository
    • Approximate publication date:
    • Your current Microsoft account and Marketplace user ID
    • Any previous Microsoft account that may have been connected to the publisher

Please explain that you want Microsoft to restore your access to the existing publisher account. If restoring access is not possible, ask whether the existing extension can be transferred to a publisher account controlled by your current Microsoft identity.

You can also mention that you control the public source repository and can provide additional ownership evidence if required. Please do not send passwords, personal access tokens, recovery codes, or identity documents in the initial email. If sensitive verification is necessary, ask the Marketplace team to provide an appropriate private method for submitting it.

If you found my response helpful or informative, I would greatly appreciate it if you could follow this guide for your confirmation. Thank you.
