A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
If the old computer is running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1, the OneDrive desktop app is no longer supported there. For personal OneDrive accounts, syncing stopped on those systems after March 1, 2022.
Use one of these supported ways to access files:
- Use the OneDrive website
- Sign in at OneDrive website.
- This is the supported option for older computers that cannot be updated.
- Files already in OneDrive remain available there.
- Upgrade the computer if possible
- Update the PC to Windows 10 or Windows 11 to use the OneDrive desktop app again.
- If the computer cannot meet those requirements, continue using the web version.
- If sign-in fails on another computer
- Make sure the correct Microsoft account username and password are being used.
- If the OneDrive icon is gray or crossed out, open OneDrive and sign in again.
- If the other system belongs to an organization such as a church, that device may be set up for a work or school environment. In that case, personal OneDrive access can fail if the wrong account type is used.
- If an error says the selected user account does not exist in the tenant, that means a Microsoft personal account is being used on a work or school OneDrive sign-in page. Use the personal OneDrive website instead.
- If the website still will not open
- Try a different internet connection, such as a mobile hotspot.
- A firewall, VPN, or internet provider may be blocking access.
- If the password is the problem
- Use the Microsoft account sign-in helper: Sign-in helper
If the goal is just to get important files now, the fastest path is to sign in through the OneDrive website from a device and network that allow personal Microsoft account access.
