Azure subscription disabled despite $5,509 in Microsoft for Startups credits support case unanswered

My Azure subscription was recently disabled for non-payment, and I believe this may be a billing/sponsorship issue.

I’m enrolled in Microsoft for Startups and have been using the Azure credits provided through the program for approximately one year. My startup portal currently shows approximately $5,509 in remaining Azure credits.

Despite this, my Azure subscription was disabled and I received a notification stating that payment is required to keep my data and services.

I have already opened a Microsoft Azure Support case, but I have not received a response yet.

Support Case: 2609290050000322

Our production services are currently offline because of the suspension.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue where a Microsoft for Startups-sponsored subscription was suspended despite having credits remaining? Is there anything I should check to determine why the sponsorship credits are not being applied?

Any guidance on getting this escalated to the appropriate billing/Startups team would be appreciated.

A Microsoft for Startups-sponsored subscription can still require payment or become disabled when the sponsorship credits are not being applied to the active billing arrangement or when the subscription has transitioned to commercial billing.

    Checks to perform:

    1. In the Azure portal, go to Cost Management + Billing → Billing profiles.
      • Confirm the billing profile tied to the affected subscription.
      • Review invoices and payment methods there.
    2. In the Azure portal, go to Subscriptions.
      • Select the affected subscription and check whether it shows a commercial billing state such as past due or disabled.
      • If the subscription was canceled by the Account Administrator or subscription Owner, use Reactivate.
    3. If a banner shows This subscription is disabled because payment wasn’t received or This subscription will be disabled for non-payment, select the banner.
      • For eligible subscriptions, this opens Settle Balance or Invoice in the billing scope.
    4. Verify whether the Microsoft for Startups sponsorship is actually attached to the billing account under which the subscription was created.
      • After sponsorship activation, new subscriptions must be created under the billing account where the credits are allocated.
      • In Subscriptions → Add, select the billing account under which the credits are allocated.
    5. Check whether the startup has graduated from Microsoft for Startups or whether sponsorship benefits ended.
      • After graduation or sponsorship end, Azure workloads continue running, but remaining Microsoft for Startups credits expire and the subscription transitions to a commercial billing arrangement such as pay-as-you-go.

    Escalation path for this scenario:

    • Because this is a sponsorship/billing issue, use Microsoft for Startups Program Support for program, benefits, sponsorship, entitlement, and redemption issues.
    • In the Azure portal:
      1. Go to the startup homepage.
      2. Open the Overview tab.
      3. In Your Microsoft Team, select Get program support.

If the issue is specifically an Azure billing problem on the subscription itself, submit an Azure Product & Billing Support request in the Azure portal. Billing support is the correct path for investigating why charges were not covered by sponsorship credits.

If the subscription is disabled because of a past due balance and payment is made, reactivation can take up to 24 hours. After reactivation, resource management can still be delayed for up to 30 minutes.
